This Formosa 51 was built by the Formosa Boat Building Company,
LTD, in 1979 in Tampai, Taiwan.
General
layout
Large
saloon with seating around table for eight and another four on starboard
side. The table can be lowered to make a double bed. There is the chart
table ahead of that with steering position and all navigational aids. The aft cabin
is a double en-suite with extra portholes on the transom. Ahead of the
saloon is the galley which has a double sink, a four burner cooker and oven,
a fridge and a freezer. On the opposite side is a cabin with one double berth
and one single berth over it. There is a connecting door to the second head that
has a sit-up bath and shower. Further ahead is the fore cabin which has
one double with one single berth over it, there is also a connecting door to the
head . The forepeak was originally the crews quarters
but now it houses the generator and washing machine. All double bunks have sprung mattresses.
Construction
The
hull is made of 19mm thick fiberglass and the decks are sandwich
construction. The
Teak decks are best Bermuda and were replaced in 1998. The deck was covered
with two additional layers of fiberglass to ensure total water tightness.
No screws have been used in laying the decks, they are secured with a 2
pot flexible industrial strength glue. Also caulking is of 2 component
materials.
For
the interior solid Teak has been re varnished with 2 pot Epifane , except 1
cabin, it is all fine
workmanship.
Engine
The
engine is a Perkins T6354M six-cylinder 115hp diesel with a Borg Warner
2.5 : 2 1 gearbox which drives a three-blade prop, it is regularly
serviced. The working hours are 4208. Cruising speed under engine is around 6kn
with a max 9kn.
Rig
This
is a cutter headed ketch, the masts are made of box section wood, the
Genoa is furling and the main has slab reefing. All winches have been
replaced with Anderson self tailing 2 speed S/S. In 2002 both masts were
taken down and stripped completely and given a 2 pot Veniziani
preservative treatment then 2 undercoats and 2 top coats of paint.

This
fine vessel comes with a very large inventory, too much to list. There are
sun awnings for the whole boat, tender with outboard, Davits and an
abundance of other equipment. The vessel underwent a
professional osmosis treatment and carries a 5 year guarantee from
2004. All paintwork was redone with US paint Awlgrip in 2004
The
current owner has owned the boat since she was
two years old and is only the second owner since new . She has been lovingly kept and
upgraded over the years and seems in excellent condition. The boat has been
in the Mediterranean all her life and done mostly short cruises.
