History
of the Yacht and Business
We
bought "Black Angel" in 1994 and spent an entire
year totally rebuilding her in 1997. Since then we've been
chartering full-time, based in the Virgin Islands, but
also exploring the Grenadines, Colombia, Trinidad and the
San Blas Islands off Panama.
As
a crewed charter boat, we have maintained "Black
Angel" in pristine condition, immediately repairing
or replacing anything that needs attention, with a regular
annual haul out to paint the bottom.
This
summer we spent two months hauled out in Trinidad
completely repainting the boat: topsides, deck and hull.
Our policy has always been to reinvest money into the boat
before it looks like she needs it.
We
made the hardtop bimini strong enough that we sit or lie
down on top of it if we want to stargaze, pack sails, or
sunbathe. It's also the ideal spot for our solar panels,
quietly and constantly charging the batteries.
One major improvement we made is a 4-foot swim platform
on the stern. This provides extremely easy access to the
water. In querying guests as to why they chose
"Black Angel" to charter, probably 60% place
this swim platform near the top of their list.
With
our deep swim ladder it's easy for divers, snorkelers,
beginning swimmers, elderly people and even physically
challenged people to get in and out of the water. Plus,
it makes a romantic spot to sip champagne and dangle
your toes in the water.
The
4-foot extension also adds waterline length and thus
boat speed. We also built in three large lockers which
serve as steps or seats, and the extra storage is a
welcome addition.
